The International Development Bill has passed its Third Reading!
We are thrilled to be able to share this exciting and game changing news with you. You may have noticed that we’ve been campaigning hard over the past couple of months to get MPs to #turnupsavelives and turn the 0.7% aid target in to a law, protected from future governments and anti-aid rhetoric.
The Bill, originally tabled by Michael Moore MP, will now progress on to the House of Lords where it will face several more readings before it ascends and becomes an act of parliament The battle to make this a reality isn’t over, and time is of the essence as the next General Election in May creeps closer. If the bill doesn’t make it before then, we’ll have to start again from scratch.
So much of the work Progressio does is only possible because of money that comes directly from the UK aid budget, we know first-hand how life changing the contribution to people’s lives is. Our partners and beneficiaries constantly remind us how vital it is that money is put aside to assist in the development of some of the most vulnerable and marginalised individuals in the world.
Hamda Sulaiman, one of the individuals Progressio have worked with in Somaliland talks about the direct impact on Progressio’s work.
